Asian Short Film & Video Competition
The submission for this year’s competition amounts to 222 entries from 12 countries including Korea, Israel, China, Taiwan, out of which 18 remarkable films were selected as finalists. They will provide viewers with authentic works that deal with a broad range of serious subject matters such as lookism and cosmetic surgery, animal abuse and environmental disruption, female labor and poverty, female marriage migration, the life of aged women, maternity and mother-child relationship, and etc., as well as with well-made films that encompass various genres such as thriller, black comedy, documentary, animation and so forth.

Documentary Ock Rang Award
As the incubator for women’s film professionals, IWFFIS, in collaboration with the Ock Rang Cultural Foundation (noted for its close involvement with progressive Korean cultural activities) presents a new project to provide a stable production system for women documentary filmmakers. These works strive to develop alternative views and sensibilities toward the world and suggest a positive model of women through visual media. A maximum of 15 million won will be awarded to support more than one film project per year and will be screened at the following 12th IWFFIS.

Women’s News Award
Intent on supporting the practices of feminism through filmmaking, the Women’s News Award is given to one of the collectives or individuals whose works are featured in the Girl's on Film section.
