SYNOPSIS

Anna is mugged in front of a trendy bar in West Berlin and a young man runs into the night with her handbag. A short while later, they meet again.

PROGRAM NOTE

A E I O U - A Quick Alphabet of Love deals with quite a familiar subject, a romance between a middle-aged woman and a young man. Anna was once a successful actor but is now aging and struggling to find reputable work. Adrian, who visits her to take acting lessons, cannot fit into school. Their communion starts as soon as he learns the vowel ¡°A,¡± the first stage of vocalization. It is not a mere accident that their names start with the letter A. However, this kind of fateful love is not easily obtainable. What makes their love more difficult is others¡¯ views. Michel, Anna¡¯s downstairs neighbor and old friend, uncomfortably watches Adrian visiting her house. An inspector keeps his eyes on her. Even her ex-husband, who committed suicide, becomes an invisible ghost and makes his presence felt by collecting his stuff in the closet. The film shows close-up shots of characters to show their prejudice. Of course, it is Anna who feels these judgments, but she pays back them with suitable acting and glaring back. This is the great attraction of this film. [BAE Juyeon]
