Synopsis
After a brain hemorrhage, Maud, a filmmaker, wakes up one morning in a half-dead body that has left her hemiplegic and facing inevitable solitude. Bedridden but determined to pursue her latest film project, she discovers Vilko, a conman who swindles celebrities, on a TV talk show. He is arrogant, magnetic and mesmerizing. He takes everything but gives her joy, a family. This film tells the story of the Abuse of Weakness to which Maud falls victim.

Every film Catherine BREILLAT released has always aroused controversy over its film ratings and deliberation regarding its
 provocative and unconventional female character that is bold but delicate at the same time. Her latest film Abuse of Weakness is revealing her own appearance and experience more than any other works of hers.
When Catherine BREILLAT became ill during the adaptation of her novel Bad Love into a film, Christophe ROCANCOURT, who wasimprisoned for fraud and just got discharged, offered her a leading role. Abuse of Weakness intactly portrays a story of a reputed artist who is physically and mentally weakened due to illness and her experience of being conned. She assumed that he must be as windler but approached him out of curiosity. At the end, she lost approximately ?650,000 as well as her faith in humanity.
Due to the disease, the female director fell into an ‘excessively weakened’ state in which her confidence stemmed from her authority and power of reason was not enough to hold herself together. Isabelle HUPPERT dominates the screen by successfully playing the role of the director tangled with confusion, frustration, sarcasm, and desire. [LEE Angela]
