Synopsis
Between Turin, Dakar, and New York, three destinies cross paths and echo one another, delineating a constellation of exile. Sophie leaves Dakar to join her husband, Abdoulaye, in Turin. Meanwhile, Aboulaye has already left for New York through a smuggler’s network. 19-year-old Thierno is traveling in Africa for the first time. With these three characters’ destinies, the film confronts us with the realities, hopes, and dreams of contemporary emigration.

Program Note
Sophie, a 24-year-old Senegalese bride, travels to Italy in search of her husband Abdoulaye, who has left home to find work.
 However, when she gets there he is nowhere to be found. Alone in Turin, a foreign city where she does not speak the language, she
 asks a group of Senegalese women for news of her husband, but instead of telling her about his whereabouts, they introduce her to
 a volunteer working for immigrants who could teach her to speak Italian and help her get a job.

 Meanwhile Abdoublaye has already arrived in New York, USA. He becomes involved with a pack of criminals and ends up being a
 vagrant rather than a worker. When he goes to the house of a woman who offered him help, he discovers that it belongs to Sophie’
 s aunt. Afraid that all the misconduct he has committed after abandoning his wife will be discovered by the in-law, he has no choice
 but to turn down a job opportunity and leave in a hurry. Thankfully, Sophie’s aunt is travelling to Dakar, Senegal with her son whom
 she has raised on her own.

 The reason these characters, who are related to one another, all scatter across different continents – in Africa, Europe and USA –
 is because they either seek work or pursue their dreams. One of those dreams must be for love. The African women shine like stars
 with their friendship and pride as they make it through the harsh realities of living as immigrant workers who, sometimes share
 their dreams with one another and sometimes destroy others’ dreams. [LEE Angela]
