SYNOPSIS
What is the body to a mother, a daughter, a woman? Can the fat, single-breasted body of an old mother, and that of a healthy youthful daughter have the same meaning for each person? Through the tension and reconciliation between a white mother who has lost her breast through a mastectomy and her black daughter who is a model, the film provocatively explores problems such as the effects of bodily images, the tensions of racial, sexual identities and the strong bond between a mother and daughter. The film provides sometimes become a war-zone of pleasure, power and disease. In this autobiographical film by Anglo-Nigerian director, Ngozi Onwurah, the performance of the mother whom Madge Onwurah, the director¡¯s mother plays is especially impressive. (Kwon Eun-Sun)
