SYNOPSIS

PROGRAM NOTE

Queer My Friends is a documentary about Seo Ahhyun, who has lived as a cisgender Christian for her whole life but struggles to change when her best friend, Song Gang-won, comes out as gay. Although Ahhyun can¡¯t get a job or be separated from her parents after college, making a film is more urgent for her. Ahhyun wants to film her dear friend, who came out five years after leaving for the United States with dreams of becoming a musical actor. This makes Ahhyun encounter the perspective that breaks down her world for the first time. To her surprise, Ahhyun gets to know Gang-won as he truly is. This moves her from out of the limitations that a non-queer creator has with viewing queer culture. This documentary observes Gang-won¡¯s life for a few years, slowly and in-depth, and is a positive step toward a queer-friendly society. It offers to share ponderings about how to see people living in a different world, how to live with them, how to share friendship with them, and how to encourage each other. [YEOM Eunyoung]
