SYNOPSIS

Ana finds herself transported to a dreamlike and dangerous land where she joins an army of girls engaged in a never-ending war. The women lure men to their deaths at sea via radio transmissions, like 20th century sirens. Though she finds strength in this exhilarating world, Ana comes to realize that she¡¯s not the killer they want her to be.

PROGRAM NOTE

Protagonist Ana works at a hotel, living a normal life. After a big storm, she hears a sequence of words that begin with ¡°M.A.Y.D.A.Y.,¡± a rescue signal spelled out. As Ana crawls into the oven where the rescue signal is heard, she falls into an unknown world, meets Marsha, Gert, and Bea, and finds out that the place is far from reality. Marsha explains to the confused Ana that the land is a place where young women need not fear the violence of men, and she involves Ana in a secret mission.
The film borrows from Siren mythology in showing a new way of survival during war. Utilizing a distress signal sent via radio transmitter, the girls lure men into the storm and block them from escaping. The fact that a new world opens behind the gate, and that the waiter that Ana met in real world reappears as a helper in the unknown world, gives a mystical sentiment, much like The Wizard of Oz (1939).
