animation / experimental / October 21 / collection

SYNOPSIS

From the internet, the director collects information such as events, accidents, births, and deaths that occurred on "October 21" from 1920 to 2020 throughout the world. The animation narrates the lives of protagonists "October" and "Haima," who can also reflect the life of anyone. Most days that the artist discovered through her collection process revealed similar patterns throughout history.

PROGRAM NOTE

Ursula K. Le Guin, Elliott Smith, the Battle of Cheongsan-ri, and the collapse of the Seongsu Bridge... People and events that seem irrelevant to each other are weaved like the warp and become a story of a man and a woman. It seems like listening to an old fairy tale passed down from mouth to mouth for a long time or reading online fake news mixed with a mix of truth and likes. However, a twisted narrative of a romantic happy ending or (male-oriented) life stories of great men makes 1021 reinterpret existing narrative structures from a gender perspective. [KIM Hye-jung]
