SYNOPSIS

Synopsis

Petra Genetrix, a mass of minerals, data fragments, and a divine being who moved to a dimension beyond space and time after combining with his own replica. It was thrown at the shore of Crypto Valley when it opened its eyes. Petra, once again on the island, on a borderless land that is neither here nor there, undergoes the immigration screening, and is placed in front of the immigration authorities who consider migrants as aliens or viruses. After failing the screening, Petra, who was detained in the Smart Grid, is drawn to an unknown force and to escape the shelter.

Program Note

The film raises a realistic question even though it applies our way of thinking to a living being from a different time zone. In the migration review, 'Petra Genetrix' answers questions about its history and the reason for migration multiple times. If Petra is considered unqualified in the strict review, there is no other option but to be locked in the grid forever. Divided screens, repeated Arabic words, and unmasked faces reveal what the film wants to say. Our present seems bleak because we can't consider the film as just another SF film. [MIN Jeeyeon]

Director

  • KIM AyoungKIM Ayoung

KIM Ayoung is interested in the notions of transmissions, crossings, and transnationals. She reconstructs reality in order to portray the properties of the world and life that lack probabilities, and to imagine an acceptable world. KIM adopts the devices of fictional storytelling, narrativity, and rhetoric to evoke unfamiliar forms of reading, writing, and listening. The outcomes take the forms of video, voice, sonic fiction, image, diagram, and text, and are exposed as exhibition, performance, theater project, and publication.
