SYNOPSIS

Frustrated by an America silenced by fear and betrayed by its own government, a group of women artists and activists from New York City travel the country to provoke dialogue about war, greed and abuses of power. Trail of feathers is a call for creative action, a psychological investigation of the shadow, and a document of a dark period in US history.

Trail of Feathers: The Missile Dick Chicks Take on America (thereafter Trail of Feathers) describes the exciting adventure of a feminist group that was formed to resist the immorality and silence of American society after 9.11. The anarchist group, named ¡°Missile Dick Chicks,¡± aims to create a performance by combining activism and art. As their name suggests, they wear outrageous clothes decorated with exaggerated missile-shaped penises and the Stars and Stripes, singing songs with rewritten lyrics and doing merry street performances. Of course, they never forget to include a mask caricaturing President George W. Bush. The attack point of their parody is delightfully straightforward: their aim is to reveal and attack the solid union of militarism, patriotism, and phallocentrism that pervades America after 9.11. Their play/movement that goes across the USA includes not only street performances but also heated discussions with people they meet on the streets. Through their activities, Missile Dick Chicks test the limits of expression in an American society that remains silent to the abuse of the miltary and abuse of power. Trail of Feathers follows the trail of Missile Dick Chicks from 2003 to 2008, during which two presidential elections took place. In November 2008, the Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama is elected president; over the cheering faces of the members, their journey through America¡¯s complex, dark and painful moments is overlaid.
