SYNOPSIS

The documentary is an affectionate dedication to, and a record about Park Nam-Ok. The film shows the aspects of a pioneering personality who fought to make her film in the sexually discriminating social structure of the film world, the difficulties she had as a woman and a mother, and her dreams as a director always thinking of new films.

PROGRAM NOTE

Determination is sometimes followed by hesitation. However, in The Dream, the director Park Nam-ok¡¯s life is filled only with determination. The film by Kim Jae-eui quietly unfolds Park Nam-ok¡¯s days, a resolute woman who continues to dream despite experiencing the hardships of being the first female director in contemporary South Korea. First introduced at the 3rd SIWFF in 2001, The Dream returns to audiences after 22 years. What do we realize from the film? Perhaps, it is the echo of courage conveyed by these two directors from the past to us, who hesitate before making resolutions. [HWANG Moonyoung]
