Sura: A Love Song unravels various materials and stylistic characteristics that could be framed as a documentary: nature, society, observation, reportage, engagement, and history. It starts with a clear video and sound of many tidal flat organisms from the West Sea which were even listed on the end credit such as Milky fiddler crab. And there are people who record them and make them into an archive. One of them is the director Hwang Yun. She thoroughly narrates her life that has suffered since the Saemangeum Embankment water barrier construction finished in 2006 and the international “New Cold War” era, where development-centric national violence and the U.S. Army relocation over the tidal flat. On the other side, there are Oh Dong-pil, Oh Seung-jun, and The Citizens'  Survey Group on Saemangeum. Perhaps calling would be a better word for them, who committed the sin of "witnessing the beauty" of the tidal flat that caused them to make an effort for its recovery. The beauty is "impossible to encompass with a single frame," so Sura: A Love Song captures them with close-up, high-speed, and airplane shots with a carefully designed sound to deliver them. The film urges the audience to take responsibility for "witnessing the beauty" together that miraculously "Sura tidal flat" still exists as a saltwater swamp, but it is now facing the threat of landfill, construction of a new airport, and the enormous risks that these will cause.
