SYNOPSIS

After separating from her wife, Jay attempts to move across the country but detours to reconnect with a past love. Along the way, she forms an unlikely friendship with a snarky gay comedian as she searches for the courage to move forward with her next chapter in life.

PROGRAM NOTE

Jay recently broke up with his wife, Lily, and plans to move to Los Angeles. However, she takes a detour to temporarily stay at her old school friend Jessy¡¯s house during the journey. Unable to let go of her lingering feelings for Lily, Jay constantly sends her messages. By chance, she meets Tommy, an unpopular aspiring gay comedian, and they become friends. Through her relationships with Jessy and Tommy, can Jay overcome her past?
Audiences, who are familiar with Michelle Ehlen¡¯s low-budget comedy trilogy consisting of Butch Jamie, Heterosexual Jill, and S&M Sally, might be surprised by the tone of Ehlen¡¯s latest feature film, Maybe Someday. Unlike the trilogy that satirically portrayed gender and sexuality stereotypes and prejudices in a broader sense with butch Jamie and her girlfriend Jill at the center, Maybe Someday. is a humorless and serious drama based on Ehlen¡¯s personal experiences. The director Ehlen plays the lead role in this film, and this time she delivers an entirely different, solemn, and profound performance. The protagonist Jay, just like Ehlen herself, identifies as non-binary, and the film deeply explores this identity and the struggles and experiences of non-binary. [Djuna]
