SYNOPSIS

Susume is a young dentist who can¡¯t communicate well with people since childhood. One day, he meets and falls in love with a woman named Miyako. She invites him into her lush, forest-like apartment, and he, though awkwardly, gradually becomes closer to her.

PROGRAM NOTE

When he is in her room, time seems to slow down. It feels like a world apart from the noisy and busy outside world. One man loves spending time in her space.
Young dentist Suzume is bad at socializing and often feels unable to fit in with others, to the point that he cannot attend company dinners. Dealing with patients is not easy for him either. He arrives at work earlier than everyone else every morning to review patient charts and practice what he will say to them in advance. This immature dentist usually eats alone after work and does not change his clothes after returning home, spending time in a daze. One day, Suzume meets a mysterious woman named Miyako. Her age and profession are unknown. Although he has difficulty communicating with others, Suzume feels a special connection with Miyako, whose room is covered in plants and looks like a greenhouse just for the two of them. The problem is that Miyako¡¯s room is always open to everyone, not Suzume. This fact starts to torment him as he realizes he is not the only person Miyako wants to be with. The mysterious mise-en-scene of Miyako¡¯s room and the slow breaths of Miyako and Suzume create a unique rhythm for this film. It focuses on capturing emotions momentarily rather than following a typical plot structure. In Her Room is the directorial debut of Ito Chihiro, the screenwriter of Crying Out Love in the Center of the World (2004). [BAE Dongmi]
