SYNOPSIS

A dictator¡¯s son revises history, a girl cuts her nails at night. He wins the presidency, her personal history is revised.

PROGRAM NOTE

What can one possibly do to explain a world progressively deteriorating with soaring poverty and unemployment rates, national violence against citizens, and government control of the media and public opinion? The director ponders this as she juxtaposes the era of the Filipino dictator Marcos with today's scene under his son's rule, recalling the superstition that cutting nails at night brings bad luck. Could it all be a matter of bad luck rather than problems with the nation and politics? The existence of faceless individuals in old photographs paradoxically reflects the diminishing significance of the country. As the director suggests, this is a story about remembering.
