SYNOPSIS

Sound Garden alternates between scenes of large trees being transported and interviews with South Korean female mental health counselors who reflect on counseling¡¯s ambivalence and complexity.

PROGRAM NOTE

Trees in the garden are cultivated and transported, but they give nearly natural sound and view in the contemporary city. The camera follows the way of adequately designed and transplanted trees for human rules and purposes. Meanwhile, in contemporary society, human agony on the inside or psychological conflict and anxiety is something to be cured for social reproduction rather than for the personal process of improvement and development. In this video, sound listens to the voice of these fears and agony, but it focuses the voices of women mental counselors who treat individuals¡¯ mental health to fit the purposes and intentions of social structure. In this way, the contradictory basis of cultivated trees and mental counselors is similar. Also, the main images and sounds reflect each other. [KIM Sookhyun]
