Wrath of Desire is fast and extreme, as if the series were condensed into two hours. In this place where not only smartphones but also regular phones are not available, people have to meet others when they want to communicate. In this place where violence and sex, desire and affection, are mixed, a line is repeated: ¡°The body never lies.¡± However, the body doesn¡¯t lie for ¡°what¡±? Sometimes the body lies about whether ¡°I¡± am female or male. Or is there any problem with the words female and male? Phoenix Du breaks down borders of Jade and Meng Ye breaks down borders of Phoenix Du. This film raises questions of how much the word homosexual includes sexual tendencies as ¡°homosexual¡± and whether it fully includes ¡°my¡± desires. At the same time, it helps to ponder the meaning of crossing borders in terms of ¡°body.¡± In the latter part of the movie, Meng Ye¡¯s Butoh dance reminds the audience of ghosts that cannot belong here or perhaps something that exists but also cannot exist because they cannot be described. The ghost might be used to painfully cry out and finally destroy the body it belonged to. [YU Eunjeong]
