In 2010, Julia Gillard became the first woman in Australian history to become prime minister. However, the public and media seemed to focus more on her private life than on her political vision. Gillard's clothes and earrings became gossip, her status without a partner or children became a public issue. Meanwhile, protesters against her carbon tax, led by Liberal leader Abbott, poured out sexist attacks on her, including portraying Gillard as a witch. The atmosphere in parliament was also not favorable. How could Gillard respond to blatant aggression and prejudice?
The film shows the attacks of a certain nature that society threw at Gillard during her rule: misogynistic and sexist attacks and ridicule revealing the psychological rejection and prejudice that modern society still has against female leaders. But nevertheless, the film shows Gillard's subsequent steps and sends the message that the very existence of a female leader in power is clearly playing a positive role in promoting women's participation in society.
At the end of the film, during Gillard's ¡°misogyny speech,¡± which became a hot topic on social media, the audience will experience a chilling satisfaction. [LEE Daeun]
