SYNOPSIS

Yuncheol, who received a sculpture award in his 20s, is now an interior construction worker and single father in his 40s. His teenage daughter is a promising art student. One day, she tells him she wants to become a monk. Yuncheol had also once envisioned himself becoming a monk or priest if he failed as an artist. He feels robbed. Why can she walk the lifepath that he couldn¡¯t? 

PROGRAM NOTE

Yuncheol, who is in the midst of a secluded island of life, endures the two waves that have hit his daily life. He is a 40-year-old divorcée who wishes to live the life of a sculptor, and his daughter Yi-yeon has quit art and decided to become a Buddhist nun. And Yeongji, who has permeated into Yuncheol¡¯s life, shows him new love.
All characters calmly face hardships while falling into the yoke of anguish. In the film, two religious spaces overlap and images of faith are linked. Yi-yeon and Yeongji, strugglingly staying in each religious space, are connected, and a deep relationship is formed between characters who do not have many encounters. The characters feel a delicate moment in the process of meeting and parting. A Lonely Island in the Distant Sea settles within the shaking screen while confirming each other¡¯s existence and allows the audience to embrace the farewell. [Pingu, Cinefemme]
