YAMASHITA Nobuhiro
fiction / teenager / band
Linda Linda Linda is not a youth film relying on a predictable tale of growth and the energy of rock music. It is a youth film with languor in which director Yamashita Nobuhiro¡¯s unique relaxed tracking shots and humor stand out. It is naturally accepted that actor Bae Doona is at the center of this film which defies the stereotype. Her forte is her simplicity and pure expressive power. The director had cast her after watching her film Barking Dogs Never Bite and then wrote the script. Therefore, it may be no coincidence that Song, a student from South Korea, was created as an innocent yet undaunting person.
Song unknowingly accepts a vocal position in a band and has to sing a famous song of The Blue Hearts, a legendary Japanese band. Although she has only three days to practice, she does not get impatient or intimidated. Rather, she enjoys the situation. On the surface, Song is in a position of a minority or a stranger, but she harmlessly permeates into the world of her Japanese friends with her unprejudiced and curious eyes, wearing the body of Bae Doona.
The last song of her high school years, which is sung with her whole heart rather than technique, is fairly similar to Bae Doona's acting. [KIM Hyunmin]
