SYNOPSIS

The Way We Are shares excerpts of stories from audio interviews with 4 queer Asian women: Katherine Chun, Wenda Li, Kobayashi Tamai, and Nancy Seto. Told in the present-tense, these stories are arranged in a way that explores the past as the present, and in doing so, immersing viewers into the real-life experiences of a different generation.

PROGRAM NOTE

8mm home video footage and photos are shown, and audio of an interview with four Asian queer women is heard. Although it is a recollection of childhood, it is stated in the present tense as if describing a photograph or painting. This statement is experienced and remembered as both ¡°Asian (and diasporic)¡± and ¡°female¡± and ¡°queer,¡± and the film evokes an emotionally lasting impression. [HWANG Miyojo]
