According to a survey in 2015 by GLSEN, an organization that works to ensure civil rights for LGBTQ students, 70% of the transgender student survey participants avoid using the school bathroom because they feel unsafe from hate violence. But in February 2017, the Trump Administration withdrew federal protection for transgender students in public schools that let them use bathrooms and facilities corresponding with their gender identity.
