International Premiere
The film¡¯s title ¡®Mix-mix¡¯ is the English name of ¡®Halo-halo¡¯, a popular Filipino dessert, a mixture of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which various ingredients are added, including fruits, jelly and boiled sweet beans. However, instead of mixing everything together, the ingredients are neatly piled up in various layers. Consisting of video clips collected and shot over three decades, the film poses an experimental challenge to the misogynistic, racist and hetero-centric images that surround and deeply influence us. Halo-halo is a metaphor for encounters between those multiple, hybrid layers and the formation of a new semantic network. [Jay SOHN]
