The ‘Women’s March,’ a special event at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival gathering 82 female film figures, including Cate BLANCHETT, the jury president Agnès VARDA, Christine STEWART, among others, made a big headline. The number 82 stands for the number of female filmmakers who have walked down the red carpet of the festival ever since the very first Cannes Film Festival in 1946; meanwhile, 1645 male filmmakers have invited in competition at Cannes Film Festival so far. In addition, 71 male filmmakers were awarded the Palme d’or while only two female filmmakers were awarded the same: Agnès VARDA (received the honorary Palme d’or in 2015) who partook in the special event this year, and Jane CAMPION (shared her Palme d’or with CHEN Kaige in 1993), the jury president in 2014.
