SYNOPSIS
Donna HARAWAY is a prominent scholar in the field of science and technology, a feminist, and a science-fiction enthusiast. She became known in the 1980s through her work on gender, identity, and technology, which broke with the prevailing trends and opened the door to a frank and cheerful trans species feminism. The filmmaker Fabrizio TERRANOVA visited HARAWAY’s home, living with her for a few weeks, and produced a quirky film portrait. TERRANOVA allowed HARAWAY to speak in her own environment, using attractive staging that emphasized the cerebral sensitivity of the scientist. The result is a rare, candid, intellectual portrait of a highly original thinker.
 

PROGRAM NOTE

 This film is a documentary film which records a several weeks of Fabrizio TERRANOVA, a film director from Brussel with Donna HARAWAY, a science philosophy, feminist, and SF enthusiast. HARRAWAY is a pleasant and original storyteller from beginning to end. She tells her philosophy on science and technology, feminism, trans-species, etc. as if she does it to a friend of hers. Her grey short hair, her teeth shown wide open during the story, and her hands and fingers start to move like a living organism, as if trying to express an ever-changing and ever-altering universe. She puts an emphasis on the wildness and radicalness of storytelling. The film does not just shed a light on her originality, vital curiosity, and mischief, but infuse SF imagination throughout the film, sort of a ‘SF documentary’ in a sense. A giant octopus and a jelly fish swim in front of HARRAWAY while being seated in her study. Meanwhile, such playful mysterious feelings are filled with the entire film; an animation clip on cows is inserted, a dark and furry life-size alien passes by the front door, and ceaseless sounds of birds and insects are heard. During HARRAWAY tells us the world accumulated with meanings, untamed wild storytelling, etc, the documentary itself shows off authentic SF-ish movement. (PARK Hyun-seon)
