Majken has known that she is a lesbian since she was 7 years old and Gabbi just recently found out that she’s also into girls. But how about Gabbi’s 10-year old sister Cleo, who is she in love with? Is it a girl or is it a boy? Cleo joins Gabbi to her girlfriend Majken’s summerhouse. On a road trip up north a silent struggle begins between the older role models, who will gain Cleo’s trust? My Gay Sister is a story about a young girl’s first meeting with the expectations to define her sexuality and about the ability to create, gain and lose trust for one another.

Gabbi, the elder sister of 10-year-old Cleo, starts to be romantically involved with Majken who is also a member of the same volley ball team. On their travel, Cleo has too many curious things. How would she know that she is in love? Whom is she going to love? Aboy, or a girl? When did her sister come to know that she is a lesbian? Meanwhile a newish and strange feeling starts to stir her heart.It would be difficult to portray a girl’s heart who starts to question her sexual identity in a more detailed and thoughtful way. Cleo’s bashful questions and Majken’s kind answers are intercut throughout the film, and it gives audiences chances to take care of Cleo’s heart in an earnest manner. Lia HIETALALia HIETALA
Lia HIETALA is Swedish filmmaker from Stockholm. HIETALA started out working as a director assistant for Swedish director Ninja THYBERG during the productions of Girls & Boys and Hingsten. In 2015, HIETALA directed her debut short film If I say No and was selected to the 2016 Tromsö International Short Film Festival. In 2016, she received the Springbrett Scholarship from Nordnorsk Filmsenter and led the way for her second short film My Gay Sister. HIETALA is currently in production for her next film Amber and Sebastian, and also in the early stages of development for her debut feature film September 1:st 2016.
