SYNOPSIS
A young woman goes back to her province in the countryside where she gets to once again meet her Grandmother Loleng – a distant relative and a senile parol (Christmas lantern) artisan. Together, they will explore Grandma Loleng¡¯s landscape of memories, only to unearth her innermost secrets and wartime experiences as a comfort woman under the Japanese regime in the Philippines. It is about memory and forgetting, both in the context of the personal and of the national consciousness.
PROGRAM NOTE
One young woman takes a journey inside the old memories of her distant elderly relative. Whenever ¡°I¡± go back home, ¡°I¡± am sick and tired of my neighbors who poke their noses into ¡°my¡± business. Whenever that happens, I go to visit grandma Loleng, a Christmas lantern artisan. People say that Loleng has Alzheimer¡¯s and therefore shouldn¡¯t be trusted, but ¡°I¡± want to get to know her. A beautiful animation that features images with a blue background with yellow and red complementary colors tells the story of the war experience of a woman who had to become the Japanese military¡¯s comfort women, as well as the recollections shared by women across generations.
