SYNOPSIS
SYNOPSIS
At 17, Sonia almost left her family to go jihad. She was convinced that this was the only way for her and her family to go to heaven. She finally came back to reason. Unlike Mélanie, 16 years old, raised by her mother, she was a teenager with no history, who shared her life between school, her friends and her cello lessons. But on the Internet, she began to argue with a \"prince\" who managed to wash her brain. Filled with guilt for not having seen anything, the parents watch helplessly with the metamorphosis of their child.

In 2015, a Korean teenaged male student went missing during his journey to Turkey to join in the Islamic State on his own will, which became an instant news in Korea. Heaven Will Wait directed by a French director, Marie-Castille MENTION-SCHAAR portrays 2 teenaged girls under the poach of the Islamic State, and their families’ agonies in a detailed and poised tone. One axis of this film is set around the girl named Sonia who gets apprehended on her way to Syria to join in the Islamic State. She believes that her participation in Jihad is the only way for her family and herself to go to heaven. Even after the apprehension, she is tormented by the fact that she failed in executing God’s will and, instead, is grounded in her home put under probation. The process of her way back to her family after the realization of her obsessive blind faith is overlapped with another girl named Mélanie’s journey to Syria. Mélanie happens to get in touch with an Islamic State’s agent on SNS. To become his wife, she converts to Muslim and sets off to Syria. The group conversations on SNS present much clearer answers on the issues of world and life to Mélanie who lives alone with her mother. This is the first and completely wrong step to the world to Mélanie who dreams of getting away from the corrupt and polluted world, and of perfectly purified life. Heaven Will Wait deploys strategies of spatial disintegration and temporal reassembly for these girls to create a rhythmic style, and shows how lives of these girls are tainted with politics, ideologies, and religions. "Mention-Schaarwas a producer for many years before branching out into filmmaking, releasing her first feature, Ma Première FOIS, in early 2012. Her second feature, Bowling, was released later that year and the third and fourth features just a couple of years later. She is the founder of the CercleFeminin du Cinema Français, which regularly brings together women filmmaking professionals and others associated with the industry.
