SYNOPSIS

SYNOPSIS
An exhibition film produced for the project Garibong Five-way Intersection in 2015 for the Seoul Museum of History. A female worker, who used to work for Daewoo Apparel in Guro Industrial Complex, starts to tell her stories in a calm voice. The screen projects the location of the sewing factory over her voice. This place is now transformed to the forest of buildings named ¡®Guro Digital Complex.¡¯ Where have all those female statues of exports gone?

PROGRAM NOTE

In this film, a woman worker, who used to work for Daewoo Apparel in the Guro Industrial Complex, talks about what has brought her there, how much pride she takes in working a sewing machine operator, and how the society sees the factory workers like her, staring at where the factory used to be from the top of a high-rise building covered with glass. The Persistence of Memory juxtaposes the daily routine of the women workers and the news about the union activities in the 1980s with the contemporary landscape of the concrete jungle named as the ¡°Guro Digital Complex,¡± which emphasizes the dramatic changes brought about in this area. Where have all these women workers known as the ¡°mainstay of exports¡± gone? (CHO HyeYoung)
