Family Labor
SYNOPSIS
Hyun-Ji, a daughter in the family, tries to get away from her family which is like an old prison covered with thick mold. She struggles to attest that she¡¯s different from those people who she belongs to. However she ends up defeated like them and it makes her to think that it¡¯s all because of the way she grew up and the people she lives with. Hyun-Ji feels contempt and skepticism of her family which randomly assigned to her, and then suddenly a ¡®game changer¡¯ comes in but everything goes back to the zero point like merry-go-round horses.
PROGRAM NOTE
Having been living away from home to study for the
civil service exams, Hyun-ji temporarily returns to
home where her family lives after taking the exam.
Her mom sacrificed and gave up everything to solely
live and take care of her family, while the two men
in the family, Hyun-ji\'s dad and younger brother, are
like parasitic plants. This film captures quite well the
hidden side of the family – the fact that it is the family
members who witness the greatest flaws of each other
and are often the ones that make each other\'s lives
harder more than anyone, precisely because they are
family. [KANG Ba-da]
