LU Mian Mian
Korean Premiere
Growth/Independence Labor
After being fired from her restaurant job, Qin-Qin, a
30-year-old beer girl, feels lost and tries to get drunk.
She wanders through the darkened lanes by a fishing
harbor, searching for meaning in her life. When she
walks into a late night seafood stand, Qin-Qin finds
what she has long been missing.
Chin chin
promotes beer drinkers at bars by wearing a miniskirt. Such easily replaceable
and self-devouring work doesn¡¯t make her feel any sense of dignity. She,
treated distantly by her family, her lover, her work, and even herself, doesn¡¯t
seem to have many choices left between being discarded or hitting the rock
bottom of society. She precariously wanders the streets at night but,
fortunately, she comes across a good company, and the night becomes a stage for
those outcasts. Chin chin isn¡¯t the only one who is relieved to enter a new day with the willpower
she gets overnight. [Jenna Ku]
