Synopsis
The traditional ¡°3 Year 3 Month Retreat¡± is practiced by Buddhist monks, nuns and other
devout practitioners. 3 years, 3 months, and 3 days is calculated as the time needed to achieve a higher state of clarity and motivation. Can LHAMO, a young, wounded girl facing the harsh gaze of the world, find her own form of retreat and redemption?
Program Note
Lhamo is a young woman who spends three years in prison after a certain incident. Following her release, she wanders from one place to another. Despite various rumors surrounding her, Lhamo remains silent and keeps to herself. For a period of 3 years, 3 months and 3 days, devout Buddhist practitioners travel around on their own, and monks group together in one place in order to practice asceticism in confinement. By withdrawing from the secular society and focusing on their inner world, they achieve enlightenment and undergo transformation. This film carefully explores Lhamo\'s spiritual practice and emotional development through the observation of her blank face and spaces throughout her journey. [KANG Ba-da]
