SYNOPSIS

Synopsis
While SUNADA Tomoaki plans his second life after recent retirement, he is diagnosed with late-stage cancer from a health examination. Rather than being sad, however, he prepares to write his own ¡®ending note¡¯ with sincerity. He makes a witty and honest list including ¡®Believe in God I haven¡¯t at all¡¯, ¡®Vote for the opposition party I never had before¡¯, and ¡®Go on a trip with my family I have poorly treated due to work¡¯ and this helps him to make precious memories with his family. The more ¡®ending note¡¯ is filled, the time of his long part with family is getting closer.

Program Note
SUNADA Tomoaki has been a salaried office worker in Japan all his life. He completes his tasks meticulously and accurately, never taking unnecessary risks. Once diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer, being his usual self, he calmly starts preparing for his own death, the whole process of which is filmed by his daughter. In our aging society, in addition to celebrating birth, it is equally important to prepare for one¡¯s death. Ending Note is a highly personal documentary, but at the same time it effectively conveys the end of the previous generation in Japan that was dedicated the reconstruction of the country and successful careers. At the 15th International Women¡¯s Film Festival in Seoul, Ending Note is screened as a barrier-free version, which is to be enjoyed by those with visual or hearing impairments. This barrier-free version was directed by CHOI Jin-ho, whose previous work was The Executioner, and actress HAN Ji-min took the voice role of Tomoaki¡¯s filmmaker daughter SUNADA Mami. [HWANG Miyojo]
