Aamir KHAN
Synopsis
Ishaan is considered as a troublemaker in school because he can¡¯t easily adapt to school life like other kids. He is lacking in ability to focus on books and classes, but he is great in feeling colors in street, winds and lights. However, teachers and parents don¡¯t recognize Ishaan¡¯s specialty.
Program Note
Ishaan is a great distress to the school because he can¡¯t easily fit into classes like other children. Although he is lacking in capacity to concentrate on books and classes, Ishaan is great in sensing the street colors, wind and lights. However, teachers and parents can¡¯t recognize his specialty. When Ishaan transfers to a boarding school located deep in the mountains after his parents forced him to transfer, he meets a strange art teacher and, with the teacher, his talent blooms in painting. It may sound boring that the film deals with the question of standardized school education and the moral theme that every kid is special. But specially-designed screen for audience to feel Ishaan¡¯s special sensibility, music, animation, computer graphic-based humor, street scene of Mumbai, Darsheel SAFARY¡¯s brilliant talent, who plays Ishaan, and interesting elements of Bollywood films, all present us a new kind of fun to watch a movie. As the film shortens the running time and reduces musical scenes, it shows the aspect of modern Bollywood film aiming at urban audience. With these changes, the film¡¯s treatment of ¡®education¡¯ and ¡®children¡¯ which have never attracted filmmakers of Bollywood shows us the development of Indian middle class and their changed life style. This is a directorial debut film of Aamir KHAN, famous in Korea for his acting and producing of the film 3 Idiots. (HWANG Miyojo)
