SYNOPSIS

Synopsis
The video examines Hollywood representations of Asian women from about 1984 to the present in an attempt to address the questions of how commercial visual media in the USA reflect the dramatic social and demographic changes of the past quarter of a century.

 Program Note
Feminism has penetrated into the male-dominated mainstream through various efforts. As a result, we are blessed in meeting films with living and breathing Feminist values. Slaying the Dragon Reloaded: Asian Women in Hollywood and Beyond introduces itself to Hollywood by adding the frame of ¡¯Asia¡¯ here. Asian women in Hollywood media are represented as weak protected beings, a killing machine armed with florid martial arts of the fist, or an overly sexualized figure. Slaying the Dragon Reloaded empirically exposes machinations of these representations through images with Asian women in recent 25 years. And now, this film suggests creating a new or alternative media about women not as an object of representation but as a subject of representation. (LEE Hyuk-sang)
