The Beloved Ones is an animated documentary based on the true stories of two African women living with the repercussions of HIV/AIDS. Maureen is the head of the family at the age of 16 after she lost her parents to AIDS. Anna is 42 years old woman who is confirmed HIV positive. Hoping her children to have different lives from hers, Anna prepares them before her imminent death and preaches them to study hard and get decent jobs and tells them that such jobs will be their parents or husbands. The film weaves their two stories in a compelling and lyrical portrait reflecting the African women in the present and the future. (CHO Hye-young)
