 Synopsis
 Kang Sun Hee has always dreamed of becoming a peasant activist since her college days. Byun Eun Joo came to live in the country following her campus couple husband, and So Hee Ju was born rich but was fascinated by a sound rural life during her university activities. However, farming has made their hands dark and rough, and engagement in the peasants’ movement meant more days for their children to wait for their mother. What they have dreamed of was the life of a farmer, but in reality it was not an easy life to lead. Moreover, they had to be a wife, a mother, and a daughter-in-law, too.
 
 Program Note
 Earth’ Women has been acclaimed at film festivals such as the Seoul Independent Film Festival and the Pusan International Film Festival in 2009. The title gets right down to the point. The earth and women sum up this documentary. Although the main theme is the farmers who lead productive lives on farmland or earth, when we expend the concept of earth, we can see the documentary is about the life we live on it. The story is told and the reality is reconstituted in these women’s points of view. So ‘Earth’s Women’ is a different name for the reality of female farmers. Then, who are these women? They are married and active participants of a farmers’ movement. Earth’s Women retells the story of the common lives/reality of farmers through the complex eyes of the female activists. The audience will witness the conflict between life as a married farmer and life as a member of the women farmers association or a political party in this reconstituted reality. Will the two reconcile? Superwoman is only a delusion generated by a capitalist society.
 We don’t need to foster superwomen anymore. What we need is to start a community for a new way of life. Reconciliation will slowly follow. The ladies of Earth’s Women will undoubtedly be the producers of this new community. (KIM Sunah)
