Synopsis
Jenna is fourteen years old, and all she should really have to worry about are her breasts that just never start growing, or why she is not as popular as Ullis, or what she should do to make Sakke fall in love with her, or at least discover her existence. But life is not that simple. Back at home, Jenna¡¯s mother is sick from cancer, and in school there¡¯s Jenna¡¯s friend Susanna, who is hopelessly turned inward and too afraid to go to parties or fall in love. On top of everything, Jenna and her mother are forced to move in with Jenna¡¯s annoying grandmother when the mother¡¯s condition suddenly deteriorates.
Program Note
The moment when life scatters into thousands of pieces. The moment when a flat chest shows no signs of growing, love seems out of control, a best friend has left, and even mom is becoming weaker and weaker due to cancer. The most horrifyingly moment of all is when you realize that you can¡¯t even let go of this life, and this is the very moment that Glowing Star, a warm, coming-of-age story about the lost teenager Jenna, begins. She is a nobody among her peers but a very much loved daughter in her family. The problem is that her perfect mom is fighting cancer. This resulted in her living with her grandmother, who is the most sophisticated person in the world. Not knowing how to deal with the pain of puberty, Jenna tries to escape from reality by hanging out with Ullis who is the coolest girl in school. But it is actually she who helps Jenna face up to reality.
Life consists of constant breakups and meetings. And sometimes there are unexpected moments when fate helps us meet someone who can help us put our lives back together again. After all, a flat chest will grow and happy moments do sneak in on our painful lives. Like Jenna wrote in her last poem, someone may leave but my life will still go on. (Jay SOHN)
