SYNOPSIS

Tricky Women 2009

 Synopsis
Unique! would be one of the most interesting examples that combine the unique characteristics of animation art, i.e. cutting and pasting, with its theme. You will think of flesh and blood being associated with the white paper and the red ink that appear parallel with the pieces of real women¡¯s pictures. The X-Acto knife used in designing usually is replaced with a medical scalpel.

Program Note
Plastic surgery has been a subject of several short animations in Korea, but UNIQUE! would be one of the most interesting examples that combine the unique characteristics of animation art, i.e. cutting and pasting, with its theme. You will think of flesh and blood being associated with the white paper and the red ink that appear parallel with the pieces of real women¡¯s pictures (one would assume that the sequence where blood soaks into paper through a chink cut by a knife is a parody of An Andalusian Dog). The X-Acto knife used in designing usually is replaced with a medical scalpel. One question to ask at this point: what¡¯s the real interest of plastic surgeons? Beauty indeed? Or money? (Joon Yang KIM)
