Synopsis
A family\'s peaceful existence is threatened when a busy highway is opened only meters away from their isolated house in the middle of nowhere. Refusing to move, Marthe, Michel and their three children find innovative ways to adapt to their new environment. They continue their happy-go-lucky routine despite the daily stress of hundreds of noisy speeding cars. But suspicions about the highway\'s unknown long-term dangers cause family tension.
Remaining in the disrupted household might not be so easy, but it\'s still their home.
Program Note
If you think you will be drowned by your tedious daily lives, if you need some kind of tension that stimulates your curiosity, if you want to enjoy Isabelle Huppert¡¯s performance that just becomes Isabelle Huppert, if you laugh at the rationality of narratives, if you want to experience heaven and hell at the same time, Home is a must-see film for you. This film lets us predict the emergence of a very talented director. It shows us a very simple plot taking place in a place, but it is filled with tension from the beginning to the end, just like the effect of a stimulant. (I¡¯m not saying that it makes the audience feel like they took stimulants. It is like this film took the pills!) The title, ¡®Home¡¯, means both house and family. This one is standing alone in the middle of spacious fields. There is a unused highway in front of the house. The family members are a husband and wife, their two daughters and son. They play hockey on this empty highway laughing ¡®like crazy¡¯, take turns to dry white laundries and the ones with colors with the winds in the golden fields, and suntan under the soaking sun. Until the ¡®incident¡¯ happens, this utopian and almost unreal ¡®family life¡¯ continues with no trouble. In this chamber play, ¡®the incident¡¯ begins with the cars speeding ¡®like crazy¡¯ as the highway is in full operation. Now, the house/home is invaded by loud noise, and exhibited nude in front of the road filled with the cars on their way to vacation. Here, an escape? the family members block all the holes in the house with the bricks. The entrance door, also? Of course, the entrance door, too. Next? To try to sleep in the cave of great darkness. And, next? The next is up to your imagination. (KIM Young-ok)
