Synopsis
 16-year old Sonja makes a confident and experienced impression when the conversation turns to sex in her circle of friends, but to her best friend Julia she confesses, that she has never had any sexual relations, not even with her boyfriend Anton. Instead, Sonja discovers her new feelings for Julia, but suppresses them. Could it be possible that she has fallen in love with her best friend? After a weekend at her father’s place on the East Sea coast, Sonja faces up her sexuality and realises that the life she used to lead will no longer be possible.
 
 Program Note
 Based on the director’s personal experience, Sonja takes viewers into the daily life of 16-year-old Sonja, a girl from a working-class family. The only things that radiate colorful light in the space full of gray brick buildings, parking lots, and abandoned spaces are the secret conversations between Sonja and her best friend Julia. These conversations reveal their dreams and show us their curiosity. The two girls are in their teens. They are sensitive and easily hurt. Whereas other girls’ eyes are focused on boys of their age, Sonja cannot take her eyes away from Julia. Confronted with her love towards Julia, Sonja hesitates, then suppresses it. Would it be possible for her to fall in love with her best friend? Having spent a week of summer vacation in her father’s home away from Julia, Sonja faces her self-identity and her feelings towards Julia. She realizes that her life from now on will not be the same as before. When Sonja returns home, she finds that Julia has a boyfriend. She reveals her feelings toward Julia. The love is unrequited, the friendship is over, and summer approaches its end. The film delicately describes a teenage girl’s love that cannot be simply labeled as an inner change. It describes the wandering and the pain that results from that love. (HONG So-in)
