SYNOPSIS
ZhenZhen, an elementary student in Taiwan, lives with her mother. Her mother, who always wanders about looking for a better job, and wants to buy a house for the two of them. ZhenZhen and her mother looking for a house to rent come to live in the house of Liu, an old man teaching how to write calligraphy. ZhenZhen is the only student learning calligraphy from Liu because students to learn calligraphy get less and less in an internet age, while she shows Liu know how to use the internet. Learning from each other, their relationship is developed like between a grandpa and a granddaughter. Liu has a son whom he puts out because he is a gay and ZhenZhen helps Liu and his son reconcile each other. In the meantime, her mother gets pocket money very meaningful for ZhenZhen as a present from ZhenZhen and has courage to care each other and live with her daughter. The Way We Write is a warm-hearted film about how a child¡¯s innocence untwists the complicated and entangled thread around a family. It is the first feature film of director WEN Shiow Ying who used to make activist documentaries. (KIM Sunah)
