SYNOPSIS
Who owns a woman’s body, her soul and the right to decide? Can women choose their own fate? The documentary film, Healthcaring: From Our End of the Speculum begins with a somewhat sarcastically critical song. Like the lyrics insist, woman cannot take control of their own lives. While this film critiques the fact that women’s bodies were historically used as objects of androcentric science, it also emphasizes that women should now look into their own bodies and experiences and take charge of their own right to their health. Denise BostromDenise Bostrom
Denise Bostrom wrote her first documentary film on contemporary jazz musicians as a college senior in 1973. It aired on WNET-TV and was shown nationally on PBS. She has since written documentaries, corporate films, educational films & web casts garnering awards from major festivals such as American Film Festival, Women in the Director’s Chair, Toronto Film Festival, New York Film Festival and Nyon Documentary Film Festival as well as industry awards. She has also worked on feature films as a script-doctor with renowned directors including John Korty, Wes Craven, George Lucas and Wayne Wang. She teaches screenwriting and film studies at San Francisco State University.
