SYNOPSIS
One of four college girls gets plastic surgery: a fact reported by a TV news show in Spring of 2005. By focusing on the plastic surgery syndrome among women, the news show reveals some symptoms and assumptions of Korean society: 1. Beauty can be calculated by objective standards. 2. Power is distributed according to beauty. 3. Beauty can be purchased with money. These standards are forced on women. Through gloomy stop-motion, Herstory highlights the social phenomena around the pressure to become beautiful. (Jay Sohn)

Graduated from Kaywon School of Arts and Design with major in Animation, Kim Young-jin, Kim Hye-suk and Jeon Seung-hoon co-directed Mung (2004). Lee Yu-mi directed another short animation The Neighborhood (2004) before she co-directed Herstory. Herstory was screened at numerous film festivals including Syracuse International Video Film Festival and Seoul Independent Film Festival.
