SYNOPSIS

The Director considers at relationships as a game between the genders - a psychological game accompanied by the relation of power. The men use a game to watch over the women, and try to confine them within their domain. In the first episode, the woman says that she was engaged in a role-play of doctor-patient until the age of nine. The man asks her if the boy touched her breast during the role-playing. This reflects the man¡¯s attempt to assure that the woman was untouched from the childhood play.
The title ¡°20 Fingers¡± originates from the remark that the female¡¯s grandmother makes. ¡°On our body, there are 10 fingers and 10 toes, which makes 20. As long as it doesn¡¯t exceed this number, a woman can engage in sexual activity with any man.¡± The man¡¯s face becomes displeased with this remark because this kind of freedom of expression is only permitted to males. The following dialogue also reflects the male¡¯s double standards and pretense. The woman asks, ¡°If you were born as a woman, what would you want?¡± The man replies ¡°I would want to have a relationship with every man whom I find attractive.¡± This Iranian film consists of six episodes in which the process of a man and woman meet, date and get married. The usage of long-take and hand-held cameras is unique to the film. It seems that the director uses the hand-held camera to capture the unstable nature of a female-male relationship. (Yoon Yong-soon)
