SYNOPSIS
The Helmet is the second film of director One, who has introduced the teenage female force as a significant part of Korea? independent film scene through her first short Keeping the Sea, an account of ‘bad girls’ wandering the city. The Helmet follows a young woman’s private journey through sexual self-discovery to the eventual realization that she is a lesbian. A helmet comes to symbolize female homosexuality throughout the film. By weaving personal experience into the mostly fictional narrative, the director presents some of her own stories as part of a greater history of homosexuality in Korea. (Kwon Eun-sun)

Born in In-chon, Korea in 1982, she dropped out of high school at age 18 and entered an alternative school, ‘Haja Production School’. She directed a short animation Big Adventure Of Haja (2000) and a short film Keeping the Sea (2002), which was screened at various film festivals including Gwangju, Jeonju and Seoul Independent Film Festival. She wrote, directed and starred in The Helmet (2003).
