The Naked Feminist is an extremely controversial documentary featuring interview with women porn stars, women producers of porn and feminist activists. It points to a different channel of contextualizing women’s sexual desires with its direct portrayal of the porn industry which has traditionally been seen as victimizing women. Women workers of the industry talk of their professional conviction as well as their sexual desires. They are proud of their jobs, which, according to them, help to expand the so far restricted boundaries of female sexual desires and open women’s eyes to new sexual instincts. With this mindset, some of them set up adult movie production companies. They are convinced that their films and the production system are different from the “crap” of their male counterparts and that their production system is totally different from the exploitive set up of the male-centered porn production system. They wish to be called ‘feminists’ and set up a network called “Baby Shower” where they share their problems of living as women, attempt to make different styles of porn and most of all, encourage each other as they develop. The Naked Feminist is an interesting and important work, which tells us it’s time for a fresh and serious discussion on female sexual desires, the relationship between the voyeur and the person being seen, and the reversal of the image of women as sex objects.
