The story of five Filipino friends who settle in New York with dreams of success and happiness. They comfort the grief and sorrow they endure through life as an immigrant by eating Adobo, a typical Filipino food. For them, Adobo is not just food but magic which comforts their soul and cheers them up from their tiring life. The narration of Tere, who is preparing Adobo for friends, opens this film. Those invited include four New York City-based friends of hers from the Philippines: Mike, who is in trouble with family; Marissa, who suffers from heartache due to her playboy boyfriend; Gerry, who struggles with his sexuality; and Raul, who only dates Filipino women. The host, Tere, is in love with a married man. All of them are experiencing sexual, social, and cultural conflicts between Filipino values and the more progressive values of the U.S. The film follows these characters earnestly and quietly, and invites us to a heartwarming story of life and friendship.
