SYNOPSIS

In 1970, a free trade area was established in Masan. Many women laborers have devoted their youth to working there where a number of women still flock to work. The women laborers struggled hard against foreign capital in the 1980s, but all they have been rewarded is isolation. The film is a report on their past and present. The twelve women laborers of Keuk-dong Electronics exhaustingly struggle to resume their jobs. Nobody pays attention to the women’s struggle, not even the labor activists. However, they always strengthen themselves with smiles, tears, and songs. (Lim Sung-min)

    Shin was a scriptwriter for a local broadcasting company and started make documentaries on female workers. She’s now preparing a project on prostitution.

  • Lee Ok-seonLee Ok-seon

    She has been working as a laborer in the Masan Free Trade zone and held the position of the first general director of the Masan-Changwon chapter of National Women’s Labor Union in 1999. She has been committed to the activities for women laborers and finally met again with them through her camera, Since founding “Goham”, the collective of women documentarists in 2000, she has been making documentaries on women. Her films include My Friend, Hangliang (2002), Tears Bloom, Our Behind Story (2002) and the first story of ‘Routine of Silence’, Prostitution, a Routine Talks to You (2003).
