Cross-country trips always seem to generate great anticipation, especially when they are taken on a whim. There is something special about this trip for the sisters in On Their Knees, as a rare event awaits them. Mo and Willie are half-sisters who have lived apart for years. They differ in personality, occupation and even skin tone. Right before her grandmother’s funeral, Mo inherits a bunch of letters written by this woman who cared for the sisters after their mother passed away. Fully understanding the elderly woman’s longing for her home town, expressed so passionately in the letters, Mo decides to bury her grandmother in this place located on the other side of Canada. She manages to persuade Willie to join in on the trip and the two take off in an ice-cream truck after stealing their grandmother’s body from the funeral home. Never did they expect such an adventure, where they even have to rob people to pay for the trip. In the end, they are awarded with something beyond they dreams...
 The film is written and directed by Anais Granofsky, better known as an actress, who plays Willie in this second film of hers. Actual 8mm film stock of the filmmaker with her real grandmother is shown in the film. The grandmother’s voice-over evokes moving sentiments in this film which is a dedication to all the grandmothers of the world.
